CNC milling manufacturing process: Order CNC parts online with FACTUREE
From simple geometries to complex shapes: At FACTUREE, you receive all CNC milling work from a single source - from 3-axis milling to 5-axis simultaneous machining. Our certified manufacturing partners have the right CNC milling machines for every requirement and work with high precision.
Choose from the largest selection of materials and various surface treatments for your CNC milling work - whether prototype, series or individual pieces from 1 piece. We machine components up to 7,500 x 3,000 x 2,200 mm with filigree wall thicknesses from just 0.2 mm.

3-axis milling is the most economical process for components with flat surfaces, grooves and vertical holes. The milling head moves along the X, Y and Z axes and processes the workpiece precisely in three directions - making it ideal for a wide range of standard geometries.
At FACTUREE, for example, we manufacture 3-axis milled parts such as housings, brackets, plates, covers, heat sinks and flanges. Precisely, quickly and from batch size 1.
We work every day for companies in the mechanical engineering, automotive, electronics and electrical engineering, medical technology and plant and fixture construction sectors.
Important for the design: Internal edges are always rounded during CNC milling. If these radii impair the functionality of your component, we can combine 3-axis milling with electrical discharge machining (EDM) on request. In this way, even sharp inner edges and complex geometries can be realized.

Three axes of movement are often not enough for complex geometric shapes. Modern 5-axis milling machines therefore have two additional axes of rotation (A and C), which can be used to position the milling tool or workpiece carrier at any angle to the workpiece.
With 5-axis simultaneous machining, all five axes move at the same time. This means that the workpiece is usually completed in a single operation. This reduces clamping, minimizes sources of error and saves valuable production time. Classic 3-axis milled parts can also be produced on 5-axis machines.
At FACTUREE, for example, we manufacture complex 5-axis milled parts such as turbine blades, valve blocks, implant components, gearbox housings and complex structural components. With maximum precision and short delivery times.
We work for companies in the aerospace, medical technology, tool and mold making, automotive and mechanical engineering industries.
Important for the design: Thanks to the free angle positioning, undercut geometries, deep cavities and fine surface structures that would not be possible with 3-axis milling can also be realized. Ideal for components with the highest demands on accuracy and surface quality.

Frequently requested materials
Aluminum alloys - CNC milled parts ideal for prototypes and series production
Aluminium is an ideal material for CNC milled parts and is widely used. This is because it is a versatile, lightweight metal with a remarkably high strength-to-weight ratio, natural corrosion resistance thanks to the formation of a protective oxide layer, and excellent electrical and thermal conductivity.
It can be milled very well, enabling high cutting speeds and high-quality, almost mirror-like surface finishes when producing milled aluminium parts. The low cutting forces protect the tool and machine. The key advantage of CNC-milled aluminium parts is their low weight and high stability, making them superior to steel in many applications. This is why CNC milling of aluminium is firmly established in industries such as aerospace, automotive and mechanical engineering.
However, particular challenges include thermal expansion and the formation of long chips, requiring reliable cooling for process control.

Stainless steel and steel - Ideal for robust and versatile CNC milled parts
Steel and stainless steel are essential materials for heavy-duty CNC-milled parts. Both metals are characterised by their extreme hardness, strength and durability, with stainless steel also offering excellent corrosion protection. Although CNC milling requires higher cutting forces, it produces extremely robust and precise milled parts.
The main advantages of these parts lie in their superior mechanical strength and high wear resistance. For this reason, CNC-milled steel parts are firmly established in mechanical engineering, tool and mould making, and the automotive industry. Thanks to its additional corrosion resistance, stainless steel is used in the medical technology, food, chemical, pharmaceutical and aerospace sectors.
The challenge when milling these materials with a CNC machine lies in the high tool wear and strong heat development, which requires adapted manufacturing strategies. Despite the higher costs, production is economical when maximum stability is required.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about CNC milling
What is CNC milling and how does it work?
CNC milling is a machining production process in which material is removed from the blank in the form of chips. Unlike CNC turning, it is not the workpiece that rotates, but the multi-bladed milling tool. The process is controlled fully automatically by computer (Computerized Numerical Control), which enables maximum precision even with complex geometries and large quantities. At FACTUREE, every order is assigned to the optimum manufacturer in our network with the help of AI - for maximum efficiency and consistent quality.
What materials are used for CNC milling?
FACTUREE processes over 300 materials for CNC milling: metals such as aluminum, steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, bronze and titanium, engineering plastics such as POM, PEEK, PA and PMMA as well as composite materials. The complete material overview with all available alloys and grades can be found on our materials page.
Which tools are used for CNC milling?
The most important tools are milling cutters made of carbide (solid carbide) or high-speed steel (HSS) - depending on the material and requirements. End mills are suitable for grooves and contours. Ball nose end mills are suitable for 3D shapes. Face milling cutters are suitable for large surfaces.
Drills and thread milling cutters cover the entire spectrum. Our manufacturing partners use state-of-the-art tools, tailored to your specific material and the required tolerances.
What are the usual tolerances for CNC milling?
The general tolerance is ISO 2768 medium or fine. Depending on requirements, our partners manufacture tolerances up to ±0.01 mm. Fits according to ISO 286 (e.g. quality grade IT7) are standard.
Tight shape and position tolerances are ensured by our ISO 9001-certified process, technical drawing inspection and optional measurement protocols.
What is the difference between 3-axis and 5-axis milling? And when do I need which process?
With 3-axis milling, the milling head moves along the X, Y and Z axes. This is ideal for flat surfaces, grooves and vertical holes. It is the most economical method for many standard geometries.
5-axis milling adds two rotary axes so that the tool can be positioned at any angle. This enables complex free-form surfaces, undercuts and machining in a single clamping process - which reduces errors and saves time.
Facturee offers both processes from a single source, including 5-axis simultaneous machining.
In which industries is CNC milling used?
CNC milling is a key technology in mechanical engineering, the automotive industry, aerospace, medical technology, electronics and tool and mold making. FACTUREE supplies companies across all industries - from SMEs in mechanical engineering to corporations such as Festo or Parker Hannifin. For regulated industries such as aerospace and medical technology, we provide material certificates and test reports on request.
For which products is CNC milling generally suitable?
CNC milling is ideal for housings, brackets, valve blocks and mold inserts.
It is also suitable for heat sinks, gear wheels and precision parts with complex geometries.
Milled parts are therefore ideal when high dimensional accuracy, strength and consistent quality are required. At FACTUREE, we manufacture components up to 7,500 × 3,000 × 2,200 mm with wall thicknesses from 0.2 mm.
CNC milling vs. 3D printing: Which is better for my component?
CNC milling offers greater strength, tighter tolerances and a much wider choice of materials - especially for metals. 3D printing is advantageous for very complex internal geometries or when tooling costs play a role. For functional prototypes and series parts made of metal, CNC milling is the better choice in most cases. FACTUREE offers both processes. We will be happy to advise you on your choice.
Is CNC milling suitable for series production or only for prototypes?
Both, and that is one of the biggest advantages. CNC milling is economical from batch size 1 and scales seamlessly up to large-scale production. Thanks to the automation in our network of over 6,000 machines, series orders are efficient and cost-optimized. With a FACTUREE framework agreement, you also secure stable prices and guaranteed capacities for your recurring requirements.
Can I also procure CNC milled parts in series at short notice? Without a long lead time.
Yes, that is precisely one of FACTUREE's core advantages over traditional contract manufacturers. Thanks to our network of over 2,000 certified contract milling cutters and 6,000 machines, we always have free capacity available. Even for short-term additional requirements or unplanned series requests. No follow-up phone calls, no waiting for machine availability. You upload your drawing and receive a quote.
Is CNC worthwhile in-house or should I outsource?
In-house CNC machines mean investments from €80,000 upwards, plus skilled personnel, maintenance, set-up times and tied-up capital. This only pays off with very high, consistent utilization volumes. For most companies, especially start-ups, SMEs and development departments, outsourcing to FACTUREE is often more cost-effective. You only pay for what you really need. This way you avoid fixed costs.
How can I order CNC milled parts from FACTUREE?
The process is completely digital and only takes a few minutes. Upload CAD data (STEP, DXF or PDF drawing). Select the material and process. Enter the quantity and desired date. Our system checks your request technically and forwards the order to the optimum manufacturer with AI support. You will usually receive an offer on the same working day.
How quickly will I receive a binding offer? And are delivery dates really fixed?
With FACTUREE, you will usually receive an initial quote within a few hours, at the latest on the next working day. The delivery date is communicated directly. This is exactly what sets us apart from traditional contract manufacturers, where deadlines often remain non-binding.
If problems or delivery bottlenecks arise with manufacturing partners, there is always someone else in the network. And in the end, you always have access to a contact person to discuss your worries and concerns.
What does CNC milling cost at FACTUREE - and how do I calculate reliably?
The costs depend on the material, geometric complexity, tolerances, quantity and surface treatment. Our online tool provides you with a transparent, binding offer - without hidden costs and without renegotiation. This gives you planning security for your project calculation. A framework agreement with fixed prices is worthwhile for series requirements.
