The European market for electric vehicles is growing—and so is the variety of models. For procurement, this means an expanding range of component and manufacturing requirements. The digital procurement specialist FACTUREE consolidates the procurement of custom-manufactured parts based on drawings through a central interface and provides access to various manufacturing technologies and capacities. The eTaxi Austria grant-funded project demonstrates how this model was put into practice: FACTUREE supplied various aluminum components for the „Matrix Charging“ charging technology developed by the Austrian technology company Easelink.
The market for electric vehicles grew significantly in Europe in 2025. According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), sales of electric cars, including plug-in hybrids, rose by more than 30 percent from the previous year to 4.2 million vehicles. At the same time, the number of available electric car models increased by just under 35 percent. For 2026, the IEA expects that about one in three cars sold in Europe will be electric.
As the variety of electric vehicles grows, so does the range of requirements for component procurement. Component types, materials, manufacturing processes, and surface finishes vary depending on the application. Added to this are varying production volumes, automotive-specific quality requirements, and the necessary documentation.
„For procurement, this diversity means that an increasing number of factors must be taken into account: manufacturing processes and production volumes, appropriate capacity, quality, and documentation,“ explains Moritz König, CEO and founder of FACTUREE. „Anyone who has to search for, qualify, and manage individual manufacturing partners faces a significant procurement burden. We consolidate these needs through a central interface.“
eTaxi Austria Tested Automated Charging Using FACTUREE Components
In the „eTaxi Austria“ R&D pilot project, funded by the Austrian Climate and Energy Fund, Easelink’s automated conductive charging technology, „Matrix Charging,“ was tested in real-world taxi operations in Vienna and Graz. The project, which ran from June 2021 to March 2025, was successfully completed. eTaxi Austria is considered the world’s largest pilot project for automated charging.
The system consists of the Matrix Charging Connector in the vehicle's underbody and a charging pad in the parking lot. When the vehicle is positioned over the pad, the connector automatically lowers and establishes the connection for charging. There is no need to manually connect a charging cable.
FACTUREE supplied various small turned and milled aluminum parts for the Matrix Charging Connector. Various manufacturing techniques and surface treatments from the FACTUREE supplier network were used in the process. Matrix Charging proved its worth in eTaxi operations and, at the same time, provided technical validation for international vehicle manufacturers. The findings are being incorporated into further projects, as well as into the standardization and series development of the technology.
From CNC to injection molding via a single interface
FACTUREE centralizes the procurement of parts based on drawings through a network of more than 2,000 verified manufacturing partners and approximately 15,000 machines. The range of services extends from CNC and sheet metal machining to casting and injection molding, as well as additive manufacturing and various surface treatments. Post-processing, quality assurance, and documentation are also handled through FACTUREE. For the customer, the company serves as the central point of contact for contracts and inquiries.
In the field of drive systems and e-mobility, market participants use FACTUREE to source, among other things, motor and battery housings, inverter heat sinks, busbars, and valve components.
The automotive industry requires documented quality
Quality management and documentation requirements in the automotive industry continue to evolve. The International Automotive Task Force (IATF) is currently working on the second edition of IATF 16949. At the same time, automakers are updating their customer-specific quality management requirements.
For manufacturers and suppliers, components must do more than just meet geometric and material specifications. In mass production in particular, it is essential to consistently meet defined quality requirements and document them accordingly.
FACTUREE is certified under DIN EN ISO 9001. For automotive projects, the procurement service provider can rely on manufacturing partners, who can provide industry-specific certifications such as IATF 16949 as needed. In addition, first-article inspection reports (EMPB), PPAP approvals, and material certificates in accordance with EN 10204 can be provided. Depending on the project, quality assurance includes documentation, interim inspections, and measurement reports, as well as a dual final inspection conducted by the manufacturing partner and by FACTUREE or independent testing laboratories. The protection of sensitive development and manufacturing data is also verified: FACTUREE is certified to ISO/IEC 27001:2022.
Reducing Dependencies in the Supply Chain
Geopolitical tensions, trade conflicts, and disruptions to international supply chains are increasing the importance of supply security in the e-mobility industry. It is becoming increasingly important for manufacturers and suppliers to reduce their dependence on individual sources of supply and to maintain access to alternative manufacturing capacities.
To this end, FACTUREE pursues an anti-single-source strategy and systematically ensures supply reliability. Integrated second-source options reduce dependence on individual manufacturers and minimize the risk of production outages.
